Icelandic Provisions was founded to bring that tradition to you. Skyr is an Icelandic dairy product, and it’s been a provision of Icelanders for nearly 1,000 years. Icelandic Provisions was developed in partnership with Iceland’s oldest farmer-owned dairy. It’s the only Skyr made in the US using an original Icelandic recipe using heirloom Icelandic Skyr cultures. That’s what helps make it thick, creamy and delicious.

Skyr vs Yogurt

Skyr is often compared to yogurt, but three key differences set them apart:

The Cultures

The original cultures we use to make our Skyr impart a rich, creamy flavor, whereas yogurt cultures provide a sour, tart taste.

The Recipe

Our Skyr is much thicker and more densely concentrated than yogurt. In fact, it takes nearly four cups of milk to make just one cup of Skyr.

The Nutrition

Our Skyr is packed with protein, not sugar. Each Icelandic Provisions Skyr has between 15-17 grams of protein per 5.3 oz single-serve cup.

Today, on June 17th, Iceland celebrates their National Holiday. Not many people know this, but Iceland was ruled by Denmark until 1944! On June 17th 1944 Iceland became a Republic. The whole country celebrates this important day with parades, concerts and other fun activities.
